Taipei Shilin Night Market 3

The red sticks again, its fruits soak with sugar, here you have grapes and mini tomatoes. There is another stall selling peanut candy, its all in biscuits form, just like nougats but this is made from lots of peanuts instead of yogurt. How they stick the nuts together to form the rectangular shape? How about glue? Kidding! By using caramel sugar.
Finally I found a place to sit and have a meal. Its near the open air space in Shilin Market, slightly cooler. Ordered a bowl of noodles with some peanut sauce & vege. The portion was small, just a small bowl of rice. It tasted quiet normal with peanut fragrant. Nothing awesome about it. There was a long que for a stall selling fried chicken nearby. As you can see, I bought a piece for testing. Crunchy deep fried chicken meat mixed with flavored batter. Not bad but dry. Make sure you drink lots of water. Infact there are many stalls selling the same food, but which stall is good? I am unable to comment. I just try to pick those with more people or longer ques.

Taipei Shilin Night Market 2

Along the way amongst the stalls, there is a stall with a huge wok and 2 trays. Start from the left is brown cuttle fish ‘yau yee’. Next is the simple fried beehoon (vermicelli) with some cabbage and carrots. The final tray, its ‘Sien Pulak’ which is actually tempura, its fish cake.
We continue on this particular night market, well they really have numerous types of food. These are all types of meat on the stick from chic to squid, pick one and they will prepare for you on the spot. Nice & hot!
Next is the Taiwan famous sausage but this is longer than the normal ones we had, footlong. Well, I did't try it out. Maybe you could, once you have done it, let me know. This part of Shilin Market is very hot and humid as it has a shelter roof, especially with the various yummy food cooking inside. So the whole place is closed up. There is another part of Shilin Market which is open air and more cooling where you could see the sky above you.

Taipei Street Food 2

Taipei Street Food 2
BBQ on coal in the open air, in a cold weather. Great isn’t it? Prawn, Chicken Meat, Enokitake Mushroom. These mushrooms are cultivars of Flammulina velutipes, also known by the name, "golden needle mushroom" (‘Kam Cham Ku’ in Cantonese). The meats are all marinated with some sauce. What is the flat white rectangle on the rack? Looks like piece of meat or sugar cane? It’s a type of mushroom, its abit tough, taste a bit sweet, not too bad. You will be given a thong to BBQ your food. Some special mix sauce to dip your BBQ-ed food (I have no idea what sauce it was but it taste good). Well as you know having BBQ is really dry, especially the stove is now right infront of your face.
Here is another shop for "Mee Suah"/Min Sin, a type of Vermicelli with oyster, this places gives super big oyster. Next is their famous sausage stick whereby it comes with a 2 cloves of raw garlic. You would ask, what is the unpeeled garlic for? This is how you do it. 1. Peel up the garlic. 2. Take your first bite on the sausage. 3. Take your second small bite on the raw garlic. 4. Chew them together and down you go. 5. Take your third bite on the sausage. 6. Take your forth small bite on the raw garlic, there you go…. It really taste good! The sausage skin was dry but was still juicy inside, together with the raw garlic, just makes you feel its such a nice flavor. I love it. It’s a must have for me if I am in Taiwan.
After having all the different types of food and if you still miss your local dessert. Not to worry. They have it too, maybe not the same brand in your home country, but its good enough. Its DONUTS!!! They have “Mister Donut” else you could choose “Dunkin Donut” (was at a train station). You won’t have home sick.
